River Nyando Overflows at Ahero Bridge, Escalating Kisumu Flooding

Heavy rains in Kisumu County have led to the River Nyando overflowing at the Ahero bridge, making it impassable for motorists. The situation has escalated, causing major concerns as residents and travelers along the Kisumu-Nairobi/Kisii/Homabay route were stranded.

Videos circulating on social media show areas like Kamidumbi, Panadol, and Magina submerged by the floodwaters. Learning institutions such as Ahero Town, Ahero sub-county hospital, Ahero Girls High School, Lela Girls Secondary School, and Oseth Primary School have been affected, rendering them inaccessible.

Local traders in Ahero market are also facing losses as businesses have been submerged underwater. The Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) has urged the public to exercise caution when approaching the River Nyando along the Ahero-Kisumu A1 Road.
