Gachagua Attends Burial of Sabina Joy Landlord, Mzee Gerald Gikonyo

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua joined other leaders and Kenyans in the burial ceremony of Mzee Gerald Gikonyo Kanyuira, the landlord of Sabina Joy, at Rwathia in Kangema, Murang’a County on June 22, 2024. Mzee Gikonyo, who passed at the age of 110, was celebrated as a towering figure in entrepreneurship, having risen from a humble background to build a successful business empire.

In his eulogy, Gachagua described the late Mzee Gikonyo as an icon of inspiration. “Mzee Gikonyo, who passed at the age of 110, was an icon of inspiration as he rose from a humble background to build a successful business empire,” he said. “On behalf of President William Ruto, we appreciate the notable contribution Mzee Gikonyo made in developing our nation. May his soul Rest in Eternal Peace.”

The ceremony saw the attendance of various notable figures, including Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria, MPs Peter Kihungi (Kangema), Jayne Kihara (Naivasha), James Gakuya (Embakasi North), Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu, Nominated Senator Veronica Maina, and County Assembly Speaker Johnson Mukuha. Local leaders and former officials such as former Kirinyaga Senator Daniel Karaba and former Nairobi Deputy Governor Polycarp Igathe also paid their respects.
