In a candid statement, MP Kimani Ichung’wah shared the struggles faced by many Members of Parliament, including himself, due to persistent harassment. Ichung’wah highlighted that the situation has become so severe that numerous MPs have resorted to blocking their phones, including disabling WhatsApp, making them unreachable.
“I know many of these members, including myself, have suffered a lot of harassment. I was asking the leader of the minority whether he has suffered the same, and he told me his phone is worse. Many of these Members of Parliament, you cannot reach them on their phones; they have blocked their phones including WhatsApp,” Ichung’wah revealed.
This communication blockade underscores the intense pressure and distress that MPs are experiencing. The harassment, reportedly linked to the ongoing debates and decisions around the Finance Bill 2024, has created a challenging environment for these legislators.
The revelation has sparked discussions about the need for respectful engagement and the impact of public pressure on political leaders. As the Finance Bill continues to stir emotions and actions among the populace, ensuring open and respectful channels of communication remains a priority.
