Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba has publicly shared her phone contact after expressing support for the dropping of certain tax proposals from the Finance Bill, 2024. In a statement on her official X account, Senator Orwoba endorsed the government’s decision to remove taxes on locally manufactured goods.
As an advocate for the “End Period Poverty” campaign, Senator Orwoba highlighted her satisfaction that locally made sanitary towels and diapers would not be taxed. She also emphasized that this move would contribute to job creation in Kenya.
“The fact of the matter is that there are NO TAXES on locally manufactured sanitary towels and diapers. To deal with Period Poverty, we MUST deal with Poverty so WE MUST DEMAND THAT WE KEEP OUR JOBS IN KENYA,” she posted on her X account.
Senator Orwoba emphasized the importance of supporting the Kenyan economy by purchasing goods manufactured in the country. She then shared her phone number, inviting Kenyans to engage with her through calls and texts, but cautioned against abusive language.
“For me and my people… We shall BUY KENYA, BUILD KENYA and Keep Kenya’s economy vibrant. For avoidance of doubt, my phone number is 0728 370 412 Keep calling and keep texting and matusi fupi fupi. Watu ni wengi kwa line!” she remarked.
The Kenya Kwanza government recently backtracked on several taxation measures, including a 16% VAT on bread, following public outcry. Other dropped proposals include excise duty on vegetable oil, VAT on transportation of sugar, 2.5% motor vehicle tax, and eco levy on locally manufactured products.
