In a significant milestone for electric vehicle (EV) adoption in Kenya, a resident became the first public user to charge his vehicle at the free Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) electric charging station located at Stima Plaza. The station, which is part of KPLC’s efforts to promote sustainable transportation, offers free charging services to EV owners.

The resident, whose identity was not disclosed, expressed excitement at being the first public user of the charging station and praised KPLC for its initiative to support EVs. The station is expected to encourage more people to switch to electric vehicles by providing convenient and accessible charging infrastructure.

KPLC’s decision to offer free charging services is seen as a strategic move to incentivize EV adoption and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. The company joins a growing list of organizations and governments worldwide that are investing in EV infrastructure to combat climate change and promote clean energy alternatives.

The successful use of the charging station by the first public user signals a promising future for EVs in Kenya, highlighting the country’s commitment to embracing sustainable transportation solutions.
