Interior CS Kindiki Expedites Collection of Last Batch of 45,000 Passports, Clears Backlog of 700,000

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has announced the clearance of a backlog of 700,000 passports, with the last batch of 45,000 passports being printed and ready for collection. This achievement follows a concerted effort by the government to streamline the passport issuance process and improve service delivery.

During a visit to Nyayo House accompanied by Principal Secretary Julius Bitok, Kindiki emphasized the government’s commitment to transforming service delivery related to passports and other critical documents such as identity cards and birth certificates.

Kindiki expressed satisfaction with the improved service delivery experience and customer relations at the immigration headquarters, attributing the success to the efforts of immigration officials and agencies. He also announced plans to print 49,500 passports within 14 days starting from May 10, 2024, using new passport-printing machines to address the backlog.

The government’s efforts to clear the passport backlog are part of broader initiatives to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in service delivery to Kenyan citizens and foreign nationals.
