Tragic Discovery Made in Search for Mother and Baby Who Jumped into River Nyamindi

The tragic outcome of a search for a 29-year-old woman and her baby, who reportedly drowned after she jumped into the swollen River Nyamindi with the child strapped to her back, has deeply saddened the community of Kabiroini village in Gichugu, Kirinyaga.

The search for the bodies was initiated following reports by a security officer at a nearby company who witnessed the shocking incident. The body of Morren Wangui was eventually found about 10 kilometers downstream, a testament to the powerful currents in the river.

“The body was discovered by residents who were out harvesting grass on the riverbanks,” said Wangui’s uncle, Stephen Kinyua, highlighting the collaborative effort of the community in the search.

In a tragic turn, the search party discovered a third body, that of an unidentified man, raising concerns about additional victims in the river. The third body was taken to Kerugoya mortuary for identification, while Wangui and her daughter’s bodies were taken to Kibugi Funeral Home in Kutus.

The discovery has left the community reeling, emphasizing the dangers posed by swollen rivers and the importance of caution during periods of heavy rainfall.
