Authorities Evict Squatters from Makeshift “Apartment” Under Bridge, Ikoyi

Authorities in Ikoyi, Lagos, have demolished illegal wooden structures built under the bridge towards Dolphin Estate. The structures, resembling makeshift apartments, were discovered to have 86 rooms divided into 10 by 10 and 12 by 10 cubicles.

During the eviction exercise, it was found that the makeshift “apartment” contained gas cylinders and containers used to store fuel for generators, posing a serious fire hazard.

Authorities are now searching for suspected gang leaders who converted the space under the bridge into apartments and rented them out to the public. The partitioning with cardboard and the existence of multiple rooms highlight the desperate living conditions faced by many in the area.

The Dolphin Estate Bridge area is known for its upmarket status, raising concerns about the living conditions of those forced to resort to such makeshift accommodations.
